Our Story
Why PremiumBrands selected SkyPR.com, and the thinking behind building with a lasting name.
PremiumBrands exists because I care about the name a founder chooses before the rest of the business is finished. As its founder, I select domains I would be willing to build on myself. SkyPR.com caught my attention as a compact communications name with enough scope for a serious practice, a useful tool or a place to learn the work.
What a better name changed for me
My experience with Newswire.com shaped that view. In 2007, I acquired the press release distribution business running on i-Newswire.com. I secured iNewswire.com in 2013 and upgraded the business to Newswire.com in 2015. The morning of the switch, a prospect told one of our sales agents that they had heard of Newswire.com. That was impossible. The moment stayed with me because the name had changed the starting point of a conversation before the prospect knew the business.
A name did not do the work of building the business. It gave the work a more fitting home. There were still decisions to make, customers to serve and operations to improve. But the introduction was no longer something to work around. When I look at a domain today, I remember that difference between having an address that functions and having a name I want to keep building around.
That is why the fix-it-later mindset interests me. It can feel sensible to postpone the naming decision while everything else moves quickly. Yet each proposal, email and introduction adds another connection to the existing identity. At some point a change becomes a coordinated move, rather than a small edit. I prefer to think about the intended destination while choosing the starting point.
A purchase before a plan
I bought PremiumBrands.com before I had a plan for it. The name itself was something I wanted to own and build around. Waiting would probably have meant losing the opportunity to build on it; another founder could have put it to use. I did not need a finished operating model to recognize that fit. The work of deciding what belonged under it came afterward.
My test is simple: would I build on this? It asks me to picture the practical introduction, the offer and the kind of work the name could hold. If all I can imagine is a clever logo, I have not thought far enough. The name has to lead somewhere useful.
With SkyPR.com, I can picture a founder preparing a focused communications proposal and feeling comfortable putting the same identity on the larger brief that follows. The PR cue gives the work a category. Sky keeps it from reading like a narrow description of one task. That balance is why I see several honest starting points here, rather than one prescribed business model.
Why building now interests me
AI has made it possible for more people to turn a practical idea into something usable. I see that as a reason to take identity seriously earlier. When tools and product features can be reproduced quickly, a recognizable name is one of the few things another builder cannot copy into their own business. My interest is in the founder who has a real problem to solve and wants a name worthy of the effort.
A great name won't save a bad business. The offer, delivery and judgment still have to stand up. I like domains that make me want to do that work, rather than domains that require a long explanation before the work can begin. A communications founder has plenty to explain already: a client's story, an unfamiliar subject or a difficult decision. The business name should give that work a stable introduction.
OnlineBusiness.com is my strategy and development studio and part of the background to this approach. PremiumBrands.com is where I offer selected domains and talk with founders about the name they want to acquire. Keeping the starting question clear helps: what do you want to build, and is this the identity you want to build it under?
Two ways to begin
If SkyPR.com fits the business you have in mind, send an inquiry about acquiring it or describe a partnership proposal. An optional personalized roadmap comes with every purchase as an added service. If the right name is outside the collection, PremiumBrands.com can also help with its acquisition. I am interested in the next business a founder is ready to put their name behind. A premium .com is a trust shortcut.
A name for your next communications business.
